38. From Bits’ log
We have finally been introduced to our host today in this new place. He calls himself Patron, and named the land Provenance. By we, I mean myself and these random people who came here alongside me. I don’t really know them well, and they’re all a fair bit older than myself, except the one named Widgets. He seemed pretty lax. Veil is the other guy who joined us in the standard fashion, I don’t really know what to make of him. The last one, Vigil, I think, was teleported straight to the room, probably by Patron. When he got here, he was very put out, got angry at Patron, stormed around for a bit. I wonder if he has some aversion to teleportation or something. I’ll have to look into that. I think there was someone else, but Patron told them to go to some other place before I saw them.
He handed everyone some forms to fill out and began explaining a bit about our purpose in Provenance and the nature of this place.
Of course Vigil didn’t take any of the forms.
That’s something I’d like to look into, the physics of Provenance (though not quite so much as Widgets seems to). It’s really beautiful how fluid and fluctuating this place is, how the colors change and the buildings reform. We weren’t able to get too far into the explanation, because Veil started peppering questions at Patron like there was no tomorrow (which, if I understood his explanation of time properly, there isn’t). I figure he’s a reporter, or a debater, or something. Nobody else is that good at asking questions.
Anyway, I’m really excited to figure this place out. Patron is like the perfect grandfatherly figure, and he said once he processed our papers, he’d start training us. I’m not entirely sure what for, but it’ll be awesome. We’ll get our own mansions, a new outfit that is immune to time and the abnormalities of Provenance. Things are going to be interesting, these coming psuedo-weeks.
