51. From Vigil’s Log:
Patron reappeared, today, while we rested in Bits’ marvelous library, in all the pomp and audacity as he seems to revel in. I sought to repel him, practice what reality denial I have studied, but, to only a fool’s surprise, it failed to have any effect. However, he did let the cane connect… and I had a wonderful probing spell attached…
Afterward, he struck up a conversation with good Widgets which I fear will result only in ills for him.
Thank you for that endearing welcome, Vigil, but my business is not with you today.
May I speak with you, Widgets?
W: I suppose, Patron. What is it you want?
It is nothing terribly profound, but as we have consumed the week I set for your acclimatization and practice, I feel it would be fair to make a request.
W: What sort of request?
I trust that you recall that there are a fair number of residents in this fair land? Well, some of them are less than conducive to the good of the plane and require a bit of talking to at times. They’re not malevolent proper, most of them, so it shan’t be overly dangerous or anything of the sort, and the lady I have in mind will likely strike your interest.
W: How do you figure that?
Perhaps you ought to ask her militia of mechanical servants.
W: …
W: You’re good at this.
